Tips for Busy People

The main reason why most people don't do exercises is because they don't have enough time. Very often we listen to and hide behind phrases such as: "Time flies," "a day only has 24 hours," or "there's not enough time in a day" . . .

Do you have the intention of doing exercises but feel you don't have enough time? Get ready to change your attitude because after you read this article this excuse won't work anymore.

Make exercise a priority

What are the five main priorities in your life? Think hard. Being healthy should be one of them. Without health, you might not be able to take care of the rest of your priorities.

Give your priorities the importance they deserve. Say "no" to things that interfere with them, and set time aside to concentrate on fulfilling your priorities. Try giving your priorities the time they need and you will be surprised on how much time you waste on unimportant activities in your life.

Some priorities can be combined. For example, if spending time with your friends and family is important for you, then combine it with exercise. Ride a bike, run, walk or play, accompanied by loved ones.

If you want to work out for an hour or more, you don't have to do it all at one time. Try doing two 30- to 45-minute sessions per day, for example, one in the morning and the other in the evening. If you have only 30 minutes of free time, increase the intensity of your training in order to obtain better results.

Don't forget to vary your exercise routine and choose activities you really enjoy. If you don't like running, don't do it. Otherwise, you'll end up dreading it day after day and you'll always find excuses not to do it. On the contrary, if exercising becomes a fun part of your life, you'll look forward to it and make time for it in your life.

At home

How many hours a day do you spend watching television? In the United States, an average family spends 7 hours and 40 minutes in front of the television daily. Instead of turning on the television, dedicate this time to working out!

Have you ever tried to get up early in the morning to work out but then fallen back asleep? Although it may sound obvious, the key to getting up early is to get seven or eight hours of sleep a night.

When you sleep well, your mind is clearer and you have more energy, and perform more efficiently and faster on the job. You'll even have energy left over for working out. If you go to bed earlier than what you’re used to, and you wake up earlier, you'll be able to take advantage of this extra time to exercise.

Also, you won't have to worry about fitting it in later in the day. The early bird catches the worm!
If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, try to minimize that time. Prepare meals in advance when you have time and freeze them in individual portions. Just reheat them when you're ready to eat. You'll also save time if you buy pre-packaged salads, pre-cut vegetables, ready to eat sauces and sliced cheese.

At the workplace

Do you spend a lot of time at the office? Many companies allow their employees to work from home. They've incorporated it as a strategy to increase productivity and job satisfaction. In addition, it helps the environment by decreasing the amount of traffic on the highways. Ask your boss if there's a possibility to work from home one or two days a week in order to reduce stress. You'll avoid the commute and have more free time to exercise.

If working from home isn't an option, try getting off work early, or on time, at least two days a week. On these days, make exercising your priority. Don't feel guilty for not working overtime at the office.

Just like thousands of people everyday, you may spend hours stuck in traffic after work. Instead of being stuck in traffic, you could be getting exercise! Join a gym close to where you work. Instead of driving straight home after work, go right to the gym. That way when you get home, you will have avoided rush hour traffic, and you can relax comfortably knowing that you've done something good for your body.

Another alternative is to bring workout clothes with you to work and run or walk nearby. These alternatives will also help you avoid the temptation of engaging in sedentary activities when you get home such as watching television, eating unhealthy snacks, or playing on the computer.

You can also take advantage of your lunch hour to exercise at a convenient place nearby. If your gym is close to your job, you can even take the time to shower there after exercising. If you take a long time to get ready, walking at a fast pace is a good option.

What are you waiting for? Don't waste your time on other things. Stop reading this article and go exercise!
